ART RESEARCH / FOOD / PERFO

MUR-MUR-MURS FROM HI-HI-HILLS The space of the Botanical Garden in Ljubljana is being transformed through interactive objects, sounds and poems, translating the hard data of the seed bank.  The process of soft-data gathering itself has become the subject of broad exploration and reflection to honour the sources of knowledge represented in the Botanical Garden. Tracing back the steps of knowledge collection, our team found itself in Padovo, a mountain village in southern Slovenia, which became a space for encounter and exchange.

FRUITS OF LEISUREExploring the space between leisure and labour, Krzak Collective began with a garden in Warsaw. In Leipzig, the cradle of urban gardening, our residency at D21 delved into the Kleingärtenvereins (allotment gardens), leading us to eating early autumn fruits from bushes on the outskirts of gardens. The project culminated in a publication sharing stories of never-pruned trees and urban harvest recipes.

SOUR POSSIBILITIESArtistic research based project focused on the metaphors that fermentation evokes as a practice of envisioning desired futures. Begun during the 2020 pandemic, it reflects collective experience of living through a crisis. The project includes research outcomes such as videos, texts, and story-recipes that explore the correlation between food fermentation practices and social transformations, freed from anthropocentric narratives.

FLOATING TABLERepresenting Floating University together with Jöran Mandik, we collaborated with the local community, Think Playgrounds, artists Phạm Minh Đức and Tran Luong, and studio ĐuĐu to create a two-part project around the idea of a dinner table as a social sculpture. The first phase was about creating a space: after exploring the neighbourhood, we guided participants in a design-build workshop in the Phuc Tan playground to build unusual tables from found materials and debris left after Typhoon Yagi. Studio ĐuĐu then led an indigo dye workshop during which we created numerous tablecloths and banners using traditional, sustainable dyeing techniques to shape the space around the tables. The second phase was all about hosting—first, a discursive dinner on disturbance ecology and then a festive, potluck-style gathering that welcomed the local community.

HEAVY EYES
Collective hypnosis using sound, taste and dreaming. The post-real imaginary tale about the disturbing potential of digestive coma. The performance was built on processes of postprandial sleep – a method of shutting down an overwhelmed body system in the name of gaining energy for digestion.

GESTURES OF NOURISHMENTA collective cooking event exploring gestures of nourishment and focusing on making food together.

The gathering began with a performative exercise in which participants were invited to express a gesture of nourishment — a movement evoking care, memory, or appetite. These embodied gestures became an entry point into the shared act of preparing and eating food.

Working side by side, we formed small groups to cook traditional Polish dishes — pierogi, racuchy, and kompot. Each task, from kneading dough to setting the table, became part of a collective choreography of care.

SOIL DINNERParticipatory event exploring the tuber as a metaphor of energy, care, and community. The project combined elements of food art, collective cooking, and storytelling.

Participants were invited to bake clay-covered potatoes in an outdoor fire, reflecting on the agricultural, mythological, and political layers of this humble root. Through shared preparation and eating, we discussed ideas of subsistence, reciprocity, and the underground networks that sustain both plants and human communities.

The event echoed traditional harvest celebrations such as wykopki—the communal potato digging gatherings marking the end of the growing season.
